Sourced locally
Our wood comes from local tree surgery work, so it's the hardwoods that grow round here — ash, oak, sycamore, beech, birch and more.
Split and racked
We split it on site in Wenvoe and stack it in racks under a roof, so air moves through it and rain stays off.
Tested before bagging
Every batch is checked with a moisture meter. Only wood under 20% goes in a bag — it burns hot and clean.

Typical local hardwoods. Our wood comes from local tree surgery work, so the mix varies from batch to batch.
Each wood has its own character. Birch gets a fire going, ash and cherry build it up, and oak keeps it in for hours.

What grows round here
The hardwoods of the Vale of Glamorgan
A 2021 Forest Research survey of the Vale of Glamorgan found ash is the most common tree here — about one in five trees in the countryside — followed by hawthorn, sycamore and oak. Beech, birch, cherry, field maple, hazel and apple are common too.
Ash dieback is affecting almost every ash tree in Wales, and the Vale council is removing badly affected trees. A lot of local ash is coming down — and properly dried, ash is one of the best firewoods there is.
| Wood | As firewood | Locally |
|---|---|---|
| Ash | Excellent | Most common tree in the Vale. Lots being felled due to ash dieback. |
| Oak | Excellent | Dense, long-lasting heat. Needs the longest drying. |
| Beech | Very good | High heat. Common in gardens and woodland. |
| Hawthorn | Very good | Second most common tree in the Vale's countryside. Burns hot and slow. |
| Sycamore & field maple | Good | Very common locally. Clean, steady burn. |
| Birch | Good | Lights easily — great for getting a fire going. |
| Cherry & apple | Good | Steady burn with a pleasant smell. |

Why it matters
Why moisture under 20%?
Freshly cut wood can hold a lot of water. When you burn it, much of the fire’s energy goes into boiling that water off — so you get a smoky, sluggish fire, blackened stove glass and tar building up in your flue.
Dry wood under 20% moisture lights quickly, burns hotter and cleaner, and gives you more heat from every bag. It’s better for your stove, your chimney and the air outside.
Are your logs seasoned and dry?
Yes. We split our hardwood on site and stack it in racks under a roof so air moves through and rain stays off. Every batch is moisture tested before bagging and is under 20%.
What types of wood do you sell?
Mixed local hardwoods. Our wood comes from local tree surgery work, so the mix varies by batch — typically ash, oak, sycamore, beech, birch, hawthorn and cherry, the trees that grow most around the Vale of Glamorgan. All of it is dried to under 20% moisture.
Why does moisture under 20% matter?
Wet wood wastes its energy boiling off water. Logs under 20% moisture burn hotter and cleaner, with less smoke and less tar building up in your flue or chimney.
Are your logs suitable for wood burners and open fires?
Yes. Dry, seasoned hardwood like ours is ideal for wood burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves, open fires, chimineas and fire pits.
Where does your wood come from?
Our wood comes from local tree surgery work around the area. We split it, dry it under cover and store it ourselves in Wenvoe.
