How many logs do I need for winter?

Firewood is sold in all sorts of measures — nets, builder’s bags, loads, “cubes”. It is hard to compare. Here is a plain guide to what you are getting and roughly how much you will use.
What is a cubic metre of logs?
A cubic metre is 1,000 litres. Our bags are 120 litres each, so 1 m³ = 8.33 of our bags. When you order our 1 cubic metre special, we give you 9 full bags — more than a cubic metre.
How much will I burn?
It depends on your stove, how well your house holds heat, and how often the fire is lit, so treat this as a rough starting point rather than a rule:
- Occasional fires (weekends, cold evenings): a few bags a month.
- Most evenings through winter: think in cubic metres rather than bags — the 1 m³ special or a regular subscription makes sense.
- Main source of heat: several cubic metres over a winter. Talk to us about a subscription with set pricing.
Dry wood goes further
Wet wood spends its energy boiling off water, so you burn more of it for less heat. Logs under 20% moisture, like ours, give you noticeably more warmth per bag.
